Heading into Saturday afternoon, the Oklahoma Sooners found themselves in a tie for second place in the Big XII Conference. Owning the tie-breaker over the Texas Longhorns, the Sooners simply needed to do what was expected of them in winning on the road against the TCU Horned Frogs. As the game concluded, Oklahoma did just that with a 97-67 win to clinch the No. 2 Seed in the Big XII Tournament.
There is no doubt that Kyan Anderson is deserving of a spot on the All-Conference team. Whether that be on third team as a point guard or honorable mention, it would be a shame not to see his name listed. As an all-around player, Anderson often finds himself as the focus of every defense. Yet, he continues to produce finishing the game with 17 points 4 assists and 3 steals.
In an effort to support Anderson, a few of the usual suspects stepped up to the challenge. Jarvis Ray poured in a team high 18 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Down low, Karviar made his presence known with 10 point and 6 rebounds. With the trio combining for 35 points, it simply wasn't enough to over come the sharp shooting of Oklahoma.
From the onset of play, it became evident that Lon Kruger and his squad were playing determined. Controlling the pace of the game, Buddy Hield hit his first three-pointer with 14:34 left in the first half sparking a route. As a team, Oklahoma connected on seven three-point attempts in the first half building a 53-38 lead going into the locker room.
Hield continued shooting well by opening up the second half with yet another three-pointer. The talented sophomore lead all scorers with 24 points. However, he wasn't alone as the Sooners wore out the Horned Frogs on both ends of the court. Isaiah Cousins and Cameron Clark both dropped 18 points while Ryan Spangler came up with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Oklahoma Sooners are playing solid basketball right now. Looking to make a push in the Big XII Tournament, OU has favorable match-ups. It would not be shocking to see the Sooners in the Conference Championship Game. Stepping back to look at the bigger picture, a tournament run likely pushes the Sooners up to a No. 3 Seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Oklahoma will face the winner of TCU and the Baylor Bears in the Quarterfinals of the Big XII Tourney.
