After tournaments in Florida and Arizona, the Oklahoma Sooners are finally back home on the baseball diamond for a two-game series against Abilene Christian that will be followed by a three-game set against Rutgers. Oklahoma's first game against the Wildcats is scheduled for a 6:00 start Wednesday night, followed by a 3:00 start on Thursday.
Abilene Christian comes to Norman with a 6-2 record. They are led in batting by Seth Spivey who has an incredible .600 batting average on the season with twelve runs scored, seven RBI and a single home run. Aaron Draper leads the team in RBI with 10 and Russell Crippen's two home runs are a team high. The Wildcats have a team batting average of .323, while holding opponents to .256, and a team ERA of 3.78, while opposing pitchers have gone 5.12 against them.
The trip to Arizona was good for the Sooners, raising their team batting average to a Big XII third best .295. They trail only Kansas and West Virginia in batting going into the series against Abilene Christian. Mac James leads the team with .436 average and is one of two players batting over .400 (Taylor Alspaugh .419) and of five players batting .300 or better on the season. Hunter Haley leads Oklahoma in home runs on the season (3) and is tied with freshman Sheldon Neuse for the RBI lead at 12 each.
Oklahoma's eight home runs on the season are tied with Kansas for second most in the conference and trail Oklahoma State by just one. The Sooners' 114 base hits are second most in the Big XII and their 75 RBI are the third most.
Led by Corey Copping (2-0, 0.00 ERA) the Sooners' pitching staff has a team ERA of 2.88 (5th in the Big XII) with 93 total strikeouts (4th in the Big XII). Oklahoma's closer Ralph Garza, Jr. has made seven appearances on the mound this season which ties him with Baylor's Doug Ashby and Oklahoma State's Alex Hackerott for the most in the conference.
