Oklahoma Sooners Finalize 2014 Football Schedule

Before Thursday, the Oklahoma Sooners had two game dates that had yet to be decided. Those games happened to be the game in Ames against the Iowa St. Cyclones and the home game against rival, the Oklahoma St. Cowboys. Now, Pete Morris, the OU Assistant Athletic Director for Communications has confirmed with NewsOK that OU has finalized their 2014 football schedule.

For those interested in the Iowa St. game, it will be played on November 1st. However, the real concern here has been the Bedlam game at least from a coaching stand point. Currently the annual Bedlam match-up has slotted for December 6th, Championship Weekend.

Ryan Aber explains in short why this weekend is unfavorable for both Oklahoma and Oklahoma St., echoing Bob Stoops sentiments following the Sugar Bowl concerning Bedlam.

Stoops and Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy had hoped Bedlam would be played Nov. 29 for recruiting reasons. Both coaches would rather not have a game to prepare for that week so they can visit recruits during an open recruiting period.

Until the Big XII decides to go full steam ahead with expansion, it appears a high profile game will continue to land on championship weekend in an effort to compete with other conferences for air time.
