Fresh off a 2-1 series win over Seton Hall the Oklahoma baseball team had Monday off before hosting Arkansas Pine Bluff for a two-game midweek series that begins Tuesday afternoon. The Lions travel to Norman with an 0-4 record, having been swept at Tulane in college baseball's opening weekend.
Arkansas Pine Bluff plated just seven runs in their four games over the weekend and suffered a shutout in the opener when they fell 7-0 to the Green Wave. Despite the scoring woes, junior outfielder Andre Davis was explosive from the plate. Going 6-for-11 (.545) in the four-game series, Davis was certainly the bright spot of opening weekend for the Golden Lions. Junior Joshua Cassidy also was strong for UAPB by driving in two runs and batting ,250 for the weekend.
For the Sooners, their series against Seton Hall turned into an offensive explosion when they combined for 23 runs and 27 hits on Saturday and Sunday. Anthony Hermelyn, Hunter Haley and freshman Sheldon Neuse all went yard over the weekend and the team batted an average of .297 with four players batting .417 or better. Junior Mac James went .500 for the weekend, providing 2 RBI and scoring two runs as well.
Coach Hughes has decided to put junior Connor Buchman on the mound for Tuesday's game and Sophomore Cory Copping will be up on Wednesday. First pitch in both games is slated for 3:00 PM (CST).
