MBB | Sooners go for sweep of Cowboys - Preview

Oklahoma tries to get their first Bedlam sweep since 2009.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Who: Oklahoma Sooners (18-7, 7-5 Big 12) at Oklahoma St. Cowboys (16-8, 4-7 Big 12)
When:  1 PM - CST
Where: Gallagher-Iba Arena - Stillwater, Okla.
TV: ESPN2

It's a burning pile of basketball garbage in the state of Oklahoma currently. The Sooners have lost  three out of their last four games. While Oklahoma State's season is turning into a dumpster fire full of fireworks.

The Oklahoma Sooners in their last game, it's an embarrassing loss at home to the Texas Tech Red Raiders 68-60. Cameron Clark scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds in the loss. The Sooners fell behind by 16 at halftime, and couldn't over come their poor shooting from beyond the arc to complete the comeback. They were able to cut it to as little as three points at 51-48 with 7:30 remaining when Je`lon Hornbeak drained the trey. They just didn't have the gas to complete the come back. f

Oklahoma State, the preseason darling of the Big 12 is having a hilarious season for Sooner fans. They're losers of five consecutive games. It's the first time since the 2007-08 season. The Sooners have the ability to hand the Cowboys their first six game losing streak since 1972-73.

They've been just an entire circus this season. The Marcus Smart situation has taken wild and wacky turns all season. It came to an abrupt explosion when Smart pushed a fan in their loss to Texas Tech back on February 8th.

The Sooners will rely on Ryan Spangler to continue his dominating presence of the Cowboys, as he did in their previous victory on January 27th. Spangler finished with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Especially with Michael Cobbins out for the Cowboys as well, Spangler should be able to dominate in the post.

This game is huge for the Sooners. While it could give the Sooners their first sweep of the Cowboys since 2009, it could also keep Oklahoma's tournament hopes alive and well and crush Oklahoma State's chances. Joe Lunardi currently has Oklahoma at 7th in a region and falling fast. Oklahoma State has dropped to a 9th seed and they're also plummeting.

Bedlam has happened 225 times in this history of the two schools. Oklahoma owns the 130-95 advantage over the time frame. Last season, the two schools split, and won on their home floors. Oklahoma State won, and rushed the court after the overtime victory in Stillwater. Stillwater has never really been kind to the crimson faithful. They have a life time record of 42-62 in GIA. Oklahoma has lost the last four games. The last three games has been by a combine 18 points.

This game could really turn around a season for either team. Hopefully, the Sooners can find a way to fix their shooting and defensive woes and top the Cowboys on national television. No better time to take advantage of Oklahoma State than when they are without their best player.
