It's no secret that the Sooners need linebackers and in a big way. The commitment of Ricky DeBerry would go a long ways to solving that glaring need. DeBerry will make his choice known tomorrow morning at 9am CST.
So just what kind of player would the Sooners be getting in DeBerry....
Size:
DeBerry is 6'2 or 6'3 and weighs 230-240lbs. He starred for Altee High School in Mechanicsville, VA. DeBerry is currently as big or bigger as most of the current Sooner linebackers. A successful 3-4 defense requires OLB to to possess size. The ideal linebacker is at least 6'2" and would weight at minimum 240lbs.
Athleticism
DeBerry while already a big kid is very athletic. This video will show that off
DeBerry is not just a big kid, but is extremely athletic for his size.
Further DeBerry is an elite level player. It's no secret that a player that has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Ohio St, USC, and Mich St. along with the Sooners has a much better chance of making an impact at the college level than a player that possesses offers from Rice, UTEP, Colorado St, UNT, Kansas, and Tulsa, along with a school like OU.
Depending on which recruiting service you look at DeBerry is either a 4 or 5 star player.
The Sooners have recruited DeBerry hard and many think they have the inside track. DeBerry tweeted out his finalists with the following tweet
