The Oklahoma Sooners continue rolling through the non-conference part of their schedule with an 85-53 win over the ORU Golden Eagles. Behind a stout defense, fans witnessed a third consecutive win by 19+ points while Buddy Hield found his shot once again collecting 16 points.
Inside, TaShawn Thomas looked to follow up a 25-point performance with another stellar outing. However, the forward's night ended short. Deciding to give up his body for a loose ball resulted in a wrist injury during the second half. With 15:17 left to play and 14 points to his name, Thomas left the game and would not return.
Fortunately for the Sooners, Ryan Spangler stepped up on the offensive side of the court hitting 1-of-2 attempts from beyond the arc. Known for elite rebounding skills, Spangler once again made the most of his opportunities recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Defensively, Oklahoma remained active holding the starting five of the Golden Eagles to a mere 16 points combined. Keying into the play of Obi Emegano who was held scoreless, Lon Kruger forced Scott Sutton to find other options. Oral Roberts turned to their bench for production. Bobby Word played substantial minutes scoring a team high 19 points. Albert Owens added another 12 as the bench accounted for 37 of the 53 total points. Unfortunately for ORU, 19 turnovers led to 30 Oklahoma points by the time the game clock hit zero.
On a night where positives were hard to find, the Golden Eagles can hang their hat on one stat. Oral Roberts managed to out rebounded their opponent 41-35.
Overall, the Sooners continued to take the shots the defense gave them. Hitting on 53.6% of the shots from the floor, OU pulled away and never looked back.
