Oklahoma Sooners MBB | Scouting The Enemy: ORU Golden Eagles

Dak Dillon-USA TODAY Sports

The Oklahoma Sooners continue to find their stride as the post players continue to develop. "We wanted to play through the post and we have for the last couple of ballgames" said Lon Kruger. "I like the results a lot more." With TaShawn Thomas and Ryan Spangler doing damage on the inside, play has opened up for Isaiah Cousins.

Through two games, Cousins racked up 37 points while shooting 8-of-11 from beyond the arc. Make no mistake, the junior remains humble while giving credit where credit is due saying "When [Thomas] plays like that, it opens up the floor and makes the whole game easier for us [guards]."

Continuing to excel from the wing, Cousins hopes to lead this team into battle once again, this time against the ORU Golden Eagles.

Unfortunately for the folks from the Tulsa area, ORU has not upset a ranked opponent since downing Xavier in 2011. Chances of the Golden Eagles breaking the trend remain slim at best considering a win for the program tonight would snap a 13-game losing streak to Oklahoma.

Obi Emegano leads the effort behind a stellar two game stretch. With wins over New Mexico State and Missouri State, the junior guard from Edmond, Oklahoma connected on 10-of-19 shots from the floor to pour in 36 points. Throughout the course of the season, Emegano ranks first on the team in scoring (16.9 ppg).

Right behind him, Korey Billbury adds another 13.8 points per game. However, Billbury has the ability to hurt opponents in multiple facets of the game. It's a bit unusual for a 6-3 guard to lead the team in rebound, but that's the case with the Golden Eagles. Pulling down a team high 6.4 boards per contest, this is one guard who knows how to crash the glass. A stat stuffer in his own right, Billbury also records a team leading 3 assists and 1.6 steals every outing.

Rounding out a trio of scorers, Bobby Word can be counted on coming off the bench. In a win over Missouri State, Word found a rhythm connecting on shot after shot for a season-high 16 points. Three times this season, the sophomore has recorded double-digit scoring for ORU.

Hosted in Norman, the game is set to tipoff at 6:00 PM CST on ESPNU.
