Oklahoma Sooners Football | Running Back "SoonerDave" Heading To Illinois?

Social media is an interesting thing. With no official news coming from either university, it was an Instagram post from backup quarterback Baker Mayfield that made Oklahoma's first post-season transfer announcement on Thursday afternoon.

Smith is a 5-10/205 redshirt sophomore who rose to popularity after he averaged 7.6 yards per carry, on 10 carries, in garbage time against Iowa State on November 1st. It is the only game he's played in as a Sooner and it was a memorable one at that. The Midlothian, Ill. native is buried on Oklahoma's depth chart behind Samaje Perine, Keith Ford, and Alex Ross. The addition of Joe Mixon into the mix this spring will only further crowd what has become a packed stable of running backs.

Dubbed "SoonerDave" because of his Twitter handle, Smith is popular among his teammates and coaches because of his work ethic and enthusiasm for the program. Even so, you can't blame a kid for wanting to get closer to home and to a place where he'll have a better opportunity to play.
