The only thing that was falling faster than the rain in Norman on Saturday afternoon were records...and lots of them. Oklahoma freshman running back Samaje Perine broke Adrian Peterson's freshman touchdown in the second quarter but he was only getting started. By the end of the day he would also tie Peterson's freshman mark for 200 yard running games and surpass Iowa State's Troy Davis for the Big 12 Conference single-game rushing mark. Oh yeah, he'd also set the single game NCAA rushing record while he was at it. Perine finished the day with 427 yards on 34 carries (12.6 YPC) and scored 5 rushing touchdowns.
Just a week ago Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon broke LaDainian Tomlinson's NCAA record with 406 yards. Breaking a record that stood since 1999, Gordon was on top of the college football world for just seven days. Now it's Perine's time to stand in the limelight and, as may others are already doing, we congratulate him.
