Oklahoma Sooners Football Recruiting / OU Offers JUCO Safety

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Ezekiel Turner, a JUCO safety picked up an offer from the Sooners yesterday. He let the world know via twitter,

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Just received my 7th offer from the University of Oklahoma <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/BoomerSooner?src=hash">#BoomerSooner</a> <a href="http://t.co/LeApzP045J">pic.twitter.com/LeApzP045J</a></p>&mdash; Ezekiel Turner (@zeke_turner) <a href="https://twitter.com/zeke_turner/status/534510509580898305">November 18, 2014</a></blockquote>

Turner checks in at 6'2" 200lbs. and plays for Pierce Community College in Woodland Hills, California. This the same school that class of 2014 signee Isaac Ijalana. Turner has offers from Arizona St., Illinois, Indiana, and Purdue to go along with his Sooner offer. All of his offer have happened in the last couple of weeks.

I don't believe that this offer is indicative of the position the Sooners are currently in with Justin Reid and Kahlil Haughton as much as it says about the current state of the secondary. Freshman Steven Parker has become the Sooners nickel back and Quentin Hayes will graduate. Steven Parker will obviously play on of the safety spots next year, but that leaves Ahmad Thomas and Hatari Byrd as the only returning scholarship players. This makes the commitment of Will Sunderland even more important along with additional players at the position. The offer of Turner makes complete sense.

The talent must improve in the secondary and Turner could go a long ways to filling that void. Look for Turner to visit the Sooners soon.
