I am not an expert and have very little if any real football experience. What I do have is mainly playing as the Sooners on NCAA fooball for xbox. I always play man defense, press the receivers, blitz the house. That being said, I do have eyes, and what I saw today was a two completely different halves of football today. The Sooners found themselves down 14-7 and then 21-7 early in the 3rd quarter after the Thomas on Thomas collision in the secondary. It appeared that wheels had fallen off the Schooner and this Saturday in Lubbock was going to get out of hand for the Sooners.
Then Superman/Tonka Truck/Optimus Perine decided to remind everyone of his super hero status. Couple that with Heupel actually committing himself to running the football in the 2nd half led to the Sooners winning in a convincing fashion. Sooner fans better not take what they have for granted in Perine. We are watching quite possibly one of the most talented running backs in the history of Sooner football which includes the likes of Simms, Dupree, and AD. Perine continued to break tackle after tackle, and ended the day with 213 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. This performance puts him at 1,001 yards on the season to go along with 14 touchdowns. Perine is the first running back to rush for 1000 yards since Demarco Murray in 2010. It's hard to remember he is still just 18 years old.
Perine's day will probably be overlooked nationally because of a certain performance by a running back from Wisconsin, but Perine carried the entire team on his 243 pound shoulders today. This marks the second time this season that Perine has carried the Sooners to road wins in the second half. I would guess that there are lots of sore Tech defenders after today. I would hate be playing defense for the Jayhawks or Cowboys over the next few weeks.
