On Monday morning, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame narrowed the list of Jim Thorpe Award hopefuls down to fifteen semifinalists. Currently, Sanchez lead the conference with five interceptions which places him third on the list nationally. However, the biggest statement may come from the fact that the cornerback is only a sophomore. A quick look at the semifinalist list shows a major of the candidates listed as upperclassmen. Sanchez along with Virginia Tech's Kendall Fuller are the lone underclassmen mentioned.
The other Big XII semifinalist hails from TCU, Sam Carter a safety.
