On Monday, the Big XII Conference announced Zack Sanchez, cornerback for the Oklahoma Sooners, and his golden locks as the Defensive Player of the Week. The honor comes after a career high eight tackles and 43-yard interception returned for a touchdown against the Texas Longhorns in a 31-26 win.
After appearing to struggle due to an injury against West Virginia's Kevin White and later against TCU, the recognition signals that Sanchez is moving in the right direction. The 2013 Freshman All-American looked comfortable and made form tackles. While the injury likely continues to nag Sanchez from time to time, it does not appear to affect the play as it once did.
Over the past nine contest, Sanchez has recorded seven interceptions. He leads the conference in the category with five on the season.
