Sooner Legacy Quarterback Kendal Thompson Announces Transfer From OU

Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports

When you have a freshman quarterback who produces a record-setting performance in a BCS bowl game the pros certainly outweigh the cons. That doesn't mean the cons won't come though. If you're a young guy playing back up, with hopes of someday winning the starting job, Trevor Knight's performance was the writing on the wall. Understanding that, sophomore quarterback Kendal Thompson has announced that he is transferring from Oklahoma.

Thompson chose to make the announcement via Twitter on the very first day that he had a Twitter account.

Considered to be in the thick of the quarterback race through the summer, Thompson suffered the setback of a foot injury on the first day of fall camp. This announcement brings about an end to a Sooner career that has been full of speculation since his August injury. His father had even called a local radio station a few weeks ago to say that Kendal would not be transferring from Oklahoma and would remain a Sooner.

However, Thompson appears to have pulled a one-eighty since then. He'll leave OU having never really shown the promise of being a highly touted quarterback and the son of a Sooner legend. He will, however, be known as an ultimate team player who pushed and cheered the guys he was competing for playing time against to excel and lead the team to success.

It goes without saying that we wish Kendal nothing but the best and ultimate success wherever he ends up. Once a Sooner, always a Sooner and we'll be pulling for ya, Kendal.
