Through three quarters of football on Saturday TCU and SMU were involved in a grinder of a game. The Mustangs took a 10-7 lead into the locker room at the half but by the time the third quarter ended the Horned Frogs had established a 17-13 lead. That's when things broke lose and the game got out of control.
Just as the final quarter started, Trevone Boykin hooked up with Ja'Juan Story for a 56-yard touchdown pass. A few minutes later B.J. Catalon scored from eleven yards out to boost the TCU lead to 31-10. The Frogs would score three more times in the quarter (twice on offense and once on defense) to turn what was a tight game into an absolute rout.
The 48-17 win improved TCU's record to 2-2 on the season and perhaps more importantly boosted the confidence of Boykin as the quarterback. The sophomore quarterback completed 15 of 26 passes for 228 yards and two scores to no interceptions.
