Under the direction of Bud Wilkinson the Oklahoma Sooners set out looking to repeat as National Champions in 1956. Fortunately, the Sooners had experience to fall back on as #25 Tommy McDonald, a senior, made his presence known.
During a perfect 10-0 season, McDonald was named a Consensus All-American and hoisted the Maxwell Award behind 853 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Holding six opponents scoreless, the Sooners claimed the prize and repeated as National Champions.
