Football season brings with it another season of Friday Locks, where Rich and I show our incompetence while Jordan shows why you guys need to pay attention to him. Of course, on the first week we've already got a disagreement on the TCU/LSU game.
Jordan
LSU (-4) vs. TCU - Lester's squad lost a ton on defense and I should probably rep the Big 12 here, but I'm gonna take the Tigers to cover. I think TCU could be a really good team by the end of the year, but I see the SEC getting the better of them and the Big 12 in this season opener.
Boise State (+3.5) at Washington - So let me get this straight. The Broncos are ranked, played an unranked team (admittedly, on the road), and they're getting over a field goal? Not to mention that team is Washington? Give me the smurf turf boys and the points.
Louisville (-20.5) vs. Ohio - Look, I don't think Louisville is going to go undefeated even with as crappy as their schedule is. But if they were to pull it off and want a legit shot at playing in the MNC over any other undefeated (or possibly even one loss team), they're going to have to win all their games and do so in impressive fashion. So if they have a chance to run it up, they'll need to which is why I'll take them to cover here even though it's a big number.
Rich
SMU (+5.5) vs Texas Tech - This is a tough one seeing as SMU has Garrett Gilbert, a kid who didn't exactly pan out at Texas while TTU will break in a new QB as well as bringing in a new head coach. However, there are simply too many questions concerning TTU and their offense currently circulating.
TCU (+4) vs LSU - Could this pick come from my distaste for the SEC? Maybe! However, Casey Pachall is a solid quarterback that will challenge the likes of LSU. Combine that with the fact that the Horned Frogs boast the top defense in the Big 12 and I like their chances at winning this one outright.
Northwestern (-6) vs California - Northwestern is my surprise team of the season. I think they can and will surprise a lot of people but it starts with a convincing win in week 1.
Matt
Auburn (-15.5) vs. Washington State - Auburn was nothing special last year, but name the last time Washington State was significant. I'm a big Mike Leach fan but you gotta wonder if the Cougar football program isn't becoming just a side show to his circus. That said, WSU will probably win this game and make me look like a fool.
Georgia (-1.5) vs. Clemson - I think that this is going to a fantastic game. Give me the Bulldogs to win (and cover) with a late field goal.
Florida State (-10) vs. Pittsburgh - I'll make it the trifecta of choosing favorites this weekend with the Seminoles covering the points against the Panthers on Monday night.
