According to a report from Andrew Gilman of Fox Sports, expected starting cornerback Cortez Johnson will be suspended for Oklahoma's season opening game against Louisiana-Monroe.
The report only references the infamous "violation of team rules" as the cause for the suspension, but it could very likely stem from an incident back in December in which both Johnson and Jalen Saunders were arrested.
As mentioned, Johnson is expected to man the starting corner spot opposite Aaron Colvin and could prove to be a significant loss with an experienced Louisiana-Monroe offense coming to Norman on August 31st. Not to mention the Sooners are very likely to also be without the services of Chuka Ndulue after he was arrested back in late June for a DUI.
Assuming the report of Johnson's suspension is accurate, redshirt freshman Zack Sanchez is the most likely candidate to start. Of course, Mike Stoops could go with some combination of players that could include any number of the following: Kass Everett, L.J. Moore, Stanvon Taylor, or possibly even Julian Wilson.
