Despite a first pitch that came nearly three and a half hours after the originally scheduled start time, Oklahoma starter Jonathan Gray looked every bit the potential No. 1 overall MLB draft pick he's been projected to be.
Gray threw a complete game shutout in the Sooners Big 12 Tournament opening 2-0 win over the Baylor Bears. The OU ace allowed just three hits over his nine innings of work while striking out twelve and walking none.
What little offense there was in the game for either team came early with a Jack Mayfield double scoring Craig Aikin from first base in the bottom half of the first inning. Three consecutive singles by Max White (who would later score), Matt Oberste, and Hector Lorenzana would produce Oklahoma's second and final run of the game in the third inning.
After that it was all Gray who regained his dominant form after a two less than typical, at least by his standards, outings in his most recent starts.
Oklahoma returns to action in their respective pool Friday against Texas Tech with another early start time of 9:30 a.m. (CST).
