As mentioned on the podcast this past Sunday, the Oklahoma Sooners Tennis team won their second consecutive Big 12 Title under the direction of John Roddick.
Heading into the Conference Finals, Oklahoma was looking for revenge against the #13 Baylor Bears who were the only team to hand the Sooners a loss during the regular season. First, they would have to get through a highly ranked #19 Texas Longhorns squad. In the end, it would be the Sooners who proved victorious over both the Longhorns and the Bears as they punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament with an automatic bid.
The Big 12 Title earned Oklahoma the #14 overall seed in the tournament as well as the Headington Family Tennis Center being named as a host site for the regional portion of the NCAAs (first and second rounds of the tournament).
Paired up with the Sooners will be Wichita St. on May 10th at 2:00 PM. Assuming Oklahoma wins that matchup, they will face the winner of Auburn and North Carolina St. The winner of each regional site will advance to the Championships in Urbana, Illinois at the Kahn Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center.
Individual selections to the NCAA Tournament will be announced later this evening.
