Sooners Snap Skid By Blanking New Orleans 10-0

Oklahoma's Jonathan Gray was his usual self on Friday night against New Orleans. He only faced 20 batters, in six innings, and allowed just two hits while striking out ten. Yup, that's a 50% strikeout rate!

The game was scoreless through the first two innings but the Sooners crossed the plate in the bottom of the third when Matt Oberste scored on a Craig Aikin single up the middle. After stealing second, Aikin would then come home himself on a Max White double to put Oklahoma up 2-0.

OU would plate runs again in the third through seventh inning, highlighted by a 3-run home run by Jack Mayfeild to left-center field to get to the final score of 10-0. It was Mayfield's fourth long ball of the season which is second most on the team. In all the Sooners recorded 13 runs on the evening and committed just a single error. Oberste led all Sooners by going 3-for-5 from the plate with two runs scored.

Pitching was certainly a focal point in the game as Sunny Golloway used three different hurlers through the final three frames. Ralph Garza Jr. entered the game in the seventh, for the departed Gray, and gave up no hits but walked a batter. Kindle Ladd took the mound for the eighth, giving up two hits while also striking out two. Finally Jake Fisher closed out the game by pitching a no-hit ninth inning with one strikeout.
