USC | Friday, March 8 at 8 p.m. CT, Dedeaux Field |
The Trojans are 1-3 for the month of March and are currently riding a three game losing streak. The bad start to the month has evened their season record at 6-6 and has slowed down the momentum built by a four-game winning streak that ended the month of February. USC is 4-2 on their home field, dropping games to Cal State Northridge (9-4) and Cal State Fullerton (11-4).
As a team the Trojans are batting .288 but don't let that fool you into believing that they don't have sluggers. USC has eight batters hitting .300 or better, including Kevin Swick who is hitting .400 with a team high 21 total bases. James Roberts leads the way in RBI with seven and also has a team high two home runs.
The USC lineup will face Oklahoma's Dillon Overton who was a bit shaky his last time out but managed to pick up his fourth win of the season after striking out ten Pepperdine batters in six innings of work. On the year he has a 2.86 ERA with a 4-0 record and 26 strikeouts in 22 innings of work.
The Trojans will put junior lefty Bob Wheatley on the mound against the Sooners. Wheatley has a 1-1 record on the season with a 1.47 ERA. In 18.1 innings of work he has fanned 10 batters.
Wheatley will face an Oklahoma lineup that is led by Matt Oberste, who is batting .438 with team highs in RBI (19), home runs (4) and total bases (41). As a team the Sooners are batting .299 and have six different players who have hit home runs this season.
Tonight's game against USC is scheduled for an 8:00 start and will be broadcast on AM 1400 as well as the Sooner Radio Network.
