Garza entered the game with a 2-0 record and a 4.00 ERA. Through is previous seven appearances this season he had struck out just eleven batters. However, Sunny Golloway was relying on his freshman righty to lead Oklahoma to a season sweep of the Golden Eagles and that's exactly what Garza did.

Going the distance, Garza fanned eleven batters and allowed just three hits and a single run through nine innings. He only faced more than three batters in just three of the nine innings and retired nine consecutive ORU hitters in the second through fourth innings and then six in a row in the six and seventh innings.
ORU scored their only run in the bottom of the first when Nate Goro scored from third on a Logan Domenico single to right field. From that point on the Golden Eagles would only register a hit in the fifth and another in the eighth. It was a strong performance for a pitching staff that is working on building depth throughout the season. The Sooners have three high quality starters in Jonathan Gray, Dillon Overton and Adam Choplick and a solid closer in Billy Waltrip but are looking to build middle relievers in order to make a run through the post-season. Freshman Jacob Evans was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the week on Monday and then Garza Jr. followed that up with his performance on Tuesday night it Tulsa so it looks like the pitching staff is developing just fine.
The Eagles carried their 1-0 lead into the top of the third when the Sooners tied it up on a Max White Double that scored Jack Mayfield. Oklahoma took the lead in the next inning when Anthony Hermelyn came home on a bases loaded walk. Matt Oberste drove in Garrett Carey in the next at bat to extend OU's lead to 3-1. That would be it for the scoring on the night as both team's pitchers would practically keep opposing batters in check.
Oklahoma starts a three-game series against Kansas (14-8, 2-1) on Thursday evening. It will mark the final home conference series for the Sooners until they host Texas Tech beginning April 26th.
