The temperature may have been frigid outside but the Sooners were blistering the nets inside the Lloyd Noble Center on the way to a 78-56 rout of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. With senior Cameron Clark scoring a season low 8 points, the story of the game was Sophomore Buddy Hield who had a game high 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting.
Hield rocked the rim three times on dunks and completed his performance by adding three rebounds, three assists and two steals to his stat line. He was joined in double figures by fellow sophomore guard Isaiah Cousins who added 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Defensively DJ Bennett swatted five shots, to add to his career high 9 points, and held the Islanders to just 38% from the floor. The Sooners also forced Texas A&M-CC into 20 turnovers for the game and had a total of 9 blocked shots.
Oklahoma took the lead at the 17:36 mark of the first half when Buddy Hield scored on a layup after getting his own rebound from a missed three-point shot. The Sooners led 4-2 at that point and wouldn't trail again on their way towards building a 42-24 halftime lead.
The second half was pretty much cruise control for OU as the Islanders held the Sooners scoreless for nearly the first three minutes. Oklahoma would eventually extend their lead by four points, outscoring Texas A&M-CC 36-32 over the final twenty minutes, to secure their seventh win of the season.
Up next for Oklahoma is a trip to the Nation's Capital for a Sunday tilt with 5-3 George Mason. The game is set for a Noon tip and will be broadcast on FOX Sports SW.
