Wednesday night in the Lloyd Noble Center, the Oklahoma women's basketball team moved to 6-2 on the season with a comfortable 97-80 victory over Western Illinois.
The Sooners were led by Aaryn Ellenberg's game-high 25 points, which by itself isn't much of a headline as she regularly achieves that particular feat. However, the OU sharp-shooter has been struggling somewhat with her shot in the early going thus far. So the seven three-pointers she recorded Wednesday night were a welcome sign that things might be back on track.
In addition to Ellenberg, OU received a balanced effort from a number of other players as well. Four other Sooners would finish with double digit scoring, while two others were just a couple points shy of doing the same. Morgan Hook put up 14 points, five assists, and two rebounds. Coming off an outstanding game, Nicole Griffin came back down to earth somewhat finishing with 13 points and just three rebounds.
Sharane Campbell (12) and Nicole Kornet (10) were the other Sooners in double digits, while Kaylon Williams and Gioya Carter both finished with eight points.
Western Illinois shot a respectable 43.5% from behind the arc and nearly 52% overall from the field, but OU forced 21 turnovers and out-rebounded the Leathernecks 36-27 both of which led to easy buckets for the Sooners.
Oklahoma returns to action this Sunday, December 8th, for what figures to be a very difficult match-up in Norman with a No. 2 ranked Duke squad. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. (CT) tip and can be seen Fox Sports 1.
