With this weekend being the second to last available for official visitors prior to National Signing Day, the Sooners are scrambling to try and fill their remaining needs in this 2013 class. They'll look to do so this weekend in hosting a trio of recruits, including two offensive linemen and a defensive tackle.
OL Josh Outlaw 6'4" 290 lbs (Lithonia, GA) - VIDEO
Outlaw is a big, physical lineman who has good athleticism for a player his size. He has the ability to get out in space and into the second level, a quality any school would covet but one Oklahoma has always been fond of in their offensive linemen. He can play a bit too high, with respect to his pad level, at times but as with most high school prospects that is something he'll get plenty of help with at the D-I level.
Outlaw originally committed to Florida, but backed off that in December and reopened his recruitment. He currently holds offers from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, TCU, and West Virginia among others. He would fill a significant need, of high school offensive tackles, for Oklahoma in this class not to mention plucking a quality offensive lineman from SEC country is never a bad thing.
OL George Adeosun 6'6" 294 lbs (Alpharetta, GA) - VIDEO
The Sooners only got in on Adeosun earlier this week and the talented lineman wasted no time arranging an official visit to Norman. While he's only recently started to garner the attention of programs like Oklahoma, Adeosun is a bit of a late bloomer having not played the game of football for very long. However, teams have taken notice now that the Sooners have offered and his recruitment has picked up significantly.
Based on this recent SoonerScoop.com interview ($) with Adeosun, it sounds like what Oklahoma can offer from an education standpoint will be equally as important as their football prowess.
Adeosun currently holds offers from Oklahoma, Kentucky, Purdue, Virginia, and Yale among others but that list could change significantly in the coming days.
DT Matt Romar 6'3" 268 lbs (Port Arthur, TX) - VIDEO
At his size, Romar would certainly have some work to do adding weight to be able to hold up as a defensive tackle at the D-I level. That said, he's a very strong kid and knows how to use that strength to his advantage when playing down in the trenches. He shows an ability to use his hands to shed and/or keep blockers at bay, which is not always something you see at the high school level.
If Oklahoma were to land a commitment, Romar would become their fourth defensive tackle in this 2013 class. While it was a known position of need, the prevailing theory behind OU's late interest in Romar (aside from being a talented player, of course) is the current belief that another Sooners commit, Kerrick Huggins, could be a legitimate grade risk. If Huggins were to fail to qualify academically, Romar would be the necessary and needed insurance to ensure Oklahoma still signs three defensive tackles in this class.
As it stands today, Romar holds offers from Oklahoma, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Texas Tech, and Tulsa among others.
