Sooners freshman quarterback Trevor Knight scooped all the recruiting services Monday morning when his tweet above broke the news of OU's latest commitment. 2013 offensive tackle, Matt Beyer (VIDEO), is a former teammate of Knight's which you can only assume played a role in Beyer committing to OU.
Already 6'6" 275 pounds, Beyer looks to have the frame to easily add another 15-20 pounds which is where OU would probably around want him to be at the offensive tackle position. He has good quickness and athleticism, which the Oklahoma coaches are always looking for in their tackles, and has shown the ability at times to dominate in both pass and run blocking.
Beyer was fighting through a bit of a negative perception of his play after missing the first half of his junior season following an injury. There was some talk in the recruiting trail about his health and that led many coaches to be a little hesitant in offering the Texas product. However, after attending several summer camps his recruitment had really started to pick up as of late so Oklahoma really appears to have capitalized at just the right time.
After attending an OU satellite camp a couple weeks ago, the Oklahoma coaches obviously saw enough to like that they offered him a spot in their 2013 class. Beyer had been pretty open about wanting to make his decision prior to the start of his senior season and with the news today he can obviously focus on that with the rest of his teammates.
Beyer held offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Houston, Miami, Oklahoma State, Oregon, SMU, Tulsa, and Washington State among others. With two former teammates (Trevor Knight and his brother Connor who is walking on at tight end) clearly Beyer will have that support system in place once he arrives in Norman this time next year.
Welcome to Sooner Nation Matt!
