The Big XII has release their preseason all conference team and as usual Oklahoma was well represented. Five Sooners appear on the first-team and freshman Trey Metoyer was selected for an individual award. OU's heralded freshman receiver was named as the preseason Newcomer of the Year.
On the All Conference team the Sooners are broken down into three offensive and two defensive selections.
Junior wide receiver Kenny Stills, junior offensive lineman Gabe Ikard and senior center Ben Habern were all selected on the offensive side of the ball. On the defensive side of the ball, senior defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland and junior safety Tony Jefferson were named.
One glaring omission (at least to OU fans) is Landry Jones at quarterback. Instead of Jones taking the first team it was West Virginia senior quarterback Geno Smith who got the nod. Smith was also named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year as well. Honestly I'm alright with that because Smith certainly has a strong case and we're talking about a preseason award. Landry has a lot to prove to Oklahoma fans this season and it appears that he has some to prove to the Big XII media as well. Could that serve as motivation?
