OU Football Recruiting - One Of State's Top Players To Announce Decision Saturday

One of the Sooners more recent offers broke the news Friday afternoon that he would be announcing his college destination this Saturday. Tulsa Union's Dalton Rodriguez will annouce his college choice tomorrow on the Tulsa Sports Animal radio station.

Despite playing primarily defensive end for Union, the Sooners and position coach Bruce Kittle have opted to offer Rodriguez at offensive tackle. Kittle was recently at Union to watch Rodriguez at practice and saw enough to make the offer shortly after the visit. Clearly, the Kittle and the rest of the OU coaches believe Rodriguez's athleticism would transition well to the offensive line. Plus, it's not as if this staff has a past history of converting players from other positions to the offensive line, right?

Given the recent offer from Oklahoma and Rodriguez's renewed interest with the Sooners as of late, it's hard not to think the timing of this news does not bode well for OU's chances. That said, Rodriguez does hold offers from several other schools (Arizona, Arizona St., Baylor, Oklahoma St., and Tulsa among others) and Oklahoma State is believed to be a serious threat to the Sooners chances.

Whatever the decision may be, we'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Ed. note - There is no film of Rodriguez at offensive tackle because he's never played the position before.  You can see some film of him at defensive end just to get a sense of what kind of athlete he is and how that might project to tackle.
