Its a great match-up in a horrible time slot! When you're the host city of any tournament the top game you'd like to see is the two state schools facing each other. Its good for the tournament, good for the city and great for attendance...unless its a game slated for a 9:00 am start. That's exactly what the Big XII did to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, essentially shooting themselves in the foot in terms of Wednesday attendance.
As for the game itself, the Sooners finished the regular season fourth in the conference and the Cowboys fifth. OSU has a three games to one advantage over Oklahoma in the regular season this year but they also ended the regular season on a four-game losing streak.
Wednesday's Big XII Tournament Schedule
9:00 a.m. Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma
12:30 p.m. Kansas State vs. Baylor
4:00 p.m. Kansas State vs. Texas A&M
7:30 p.m. Missouri vs. Texas
Led by Robbie Rae's .322 average the Cowboys are batting a team average of .269 which coincidentally ties them with Oklahoma at fifth in the Big XII. Rae is tied with Mark Ginther for the team high with five home runs. He also leads the team with 36 RBI. Trey Whaley joins Rae as the only other Cowboy batting over .300.
Despite having the same batting average as their counterparts the Sooners have nearly 20 more RBI on the season. Max White leads the way for Oklahoma with a .355 batting average and 52 RBI. White is currently the only Sooner batting over .300 with Jack Mayfield being next in line at .296. Freshman Hunter Lockwood ended the regular season tied with Missouri's Dane Opel for the Big XII's home run leader at 11.
This game will feature a pitching match-up of two of the better hurlers in the Big XII. The Cowboys are going to throw Andrew Haney who beat the Sooners, 3-0, on May 4th. On the season he has an 8-1 record and a 1.63 ERA. His 110.1 innings pitched are the most in the conference and he leads the Big XII with 132 strike outs.
Oklahoma will look to Dillon Overton to get the job done against the Cowboys. He has a 5-3 record on the season with a 3.35 ERA. He has thrown three complete games on the season and has a career 16 strikeouts with a 1-1 record and 3.46 ERA against the Cowboys.
