With the majority of the major sports already having come to a close and others rapidly approaching the end, it was time to do a bit of reflecting. To sum up the entirety of the athletic department for the 2011-2012 season, I would venture to say that it was dominated by over-hype. This of course led to a let down just a few steps down the road. However, there is one thing to draw from this past season...things are setting up pretty well for 2012-2013 (barring any form of ESPN giving the Oklahoma Sooners big heads by coming in and doing a pre-season feature). Yet, one stands out just a bit.

Many of you may not be aware, but Lon Kruger is poised to reach a feat some people can only hope for in their lifetimes. Currently Coach Kruger sits at 494-320 on the all-time record list. This puts him a mere six games away from reaching the fabled 500 win mark.

But, it all started somewhere. In his first head coaching position, Kruger went 52-59 at Pan-American. Not exactly a winning record but it put his name in a few ears. You have to get your foot in the door somehow and soon his alma mater, Kansas St., came knocking.

It was at Kansas St. that Kruger solidified his career as a coach with the ability to get the job done. Now, with the reputation of resurrecting programs, he is coming off of a 15-16 season at Oklahoma.

The in coming recruits are promising and the current players have already bought into the style of play...hustle. The Sooners are ready to be back in the top tier of Big XII Basketball and Kruger should eclipse the 500 mark before Big XII play hits.
