The Sooners got off to a good start on Tuesday night in Stillwater but that was pretty much all they did. After plating a run in the opening frame OU was held scoreless through the final eight innings while the Cowboys got their bats going. The end result was a 6-1 loss that brought an end to Oklahoma's eight-game winning streak.
It look good initially for the Sooners though. Erik Ross started the game off with a single up the middle and then was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jack Mayfield. Max White then served up the only RBI of the game by scoring Ross with his single up the middle. Evan Mistich would ground into a double play next and that would be the end of the OU offense for the night.
Tuesday Night Big XII Baseball Scores
Texas A&M 4, TCU 1
Oklahoma State 6, Oklahoma 1
Texas 2, Central Arkansas 1
UTSA 4, Baylor 1
Tanner Toal would single in the next inning but that would be Oklahoma's only hit until the sixth when White would single again. The Sooners went down in order in the third, fourth, fifth and 8th innings while OSU plated runs in the third, sixth and eighth innings. That's a bad combination any way you look at it.
The Cowboys tied the game in the bottom of the third when Trey Whaley scored on a Randy McCurry sacrifice. Then, in the sixth inning OSU scored three runs when Jared Womack, Mark Ginther and Gabe Weidenaar all scored. The final runs came in the bottom of the eighth McCurry and Wes Jones scored on a Jarrett Higgins single to center field.
Damien Magnifico went 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, to collect his first loss of the season. This game doesn't count towards the Big XII standings but it does bring an end to the longest winning streak of the season for OU and that stings the pride of the Sooners just a little more than losing to another school. If there's a silver lining to be found here, it may be in the fact that OU dominated the non-conference game in Norman last year but then lost two out of three to the Cowboys, when it mattered most, during the conference series.
There's no time to sit and sulk for OU as the Dallas Baptist Patriots come to Norman on Wednesday night for a rematch game. DBU beat the Sooners 7-6 on March 13th.
