OU Football Recruiting - Sooners Finally Land Their First 2013 Verbal Commitment

The wait is finally over OU football fans!!! The Oklahoma Sooners received their first verbal commitment for the class of 2013 this morning from running back Keith Ford. SoonerScoop was able to confirm a report that had come out earlier in the day after speaking with Ford's father.

It may have taken longer than most OU fans would have liked, but Ford becoming the Sooners first commitment is an outstanding start for this 2013 class. The Cypress Ranch back is the top rated running back in the state of Texas, which is obviously no small accomplishment given the talent in the football rich state.

When you watch Ford you film you can't help but be impressed with his game. He has excellent vision, repeatedly finding the cut back lane for massive chunks of yards. What also stands out is his exceptional footwork which allows him to routinely run through arm tackles and keep the pile moving in traffic.

He's not a guy who is going to dance around in the back field or in the open, he's a one, maybe two cut guy who is going to put his foot in the ground and get up field. He has very good, but not elite speed however don't take that to mean he is a guy that is going to get caught from behind often. His high school team also uses him fairly regularly in the screen game so he'll be used to catching the ball out of the backfield.

I read a really good comparison for him earlier talking about his similarity to former UGA and 49ers RB Garrison Hearst. I also think a back currently on OU's roster would be a good comparison in Dom Whaley.

Ford turned down offers from Alabama, Baylor, Florida State, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Wisconsin among others to become a Sooner.

As we said earlier, Ford is an outstanding start to this 2013 class for the Sooners and a very welcome bit of good news to start this weekend. Hopefully he is just the first of several commitments the Sooners will receive in the coming days.

Welcome to Sooner Nation Keith!!!
