Big 12 Baseball Update (2-21-12)

Oklahoma losing two out if three to Pepperdine over the weekend was both shocking and disappointing to Sooner fans but it certainly wasn't the biggest shock of the weekend. That distinction goes to Oklahoma State who was swept at home by Cal-Poly and were shutout twice in the process. How did the rest of the conference handle the opening weekend of college baseball? Baylor 3-0 Swept Oral Roberts in a three game series. Won 3-2, 3-2, and 8-1
Kansas 3-0 Went 3-0 over the weekend with a 7-3 win over Middle Tennessee, 3-1 over Bowling Green and 2-0 over Belmont in the Music City Classic. Righty Thomas Taylor (photo above) was named the Big XII Pitcher of the Week.
Kansas State 1-2 Beat CSU Bakersfield 7-5 in 11 innings on Saturday and the dropped the next two in the series 7-3 and 8-1.
Missouri 2-1 After dropping the opening game of their series against Auburn 5-2, Mizzou went on to win both games in a Sunday double-header, 6-4 and 4-3, to take the series. Outfielder Daniel Opel was named the Big XII Player of the Week.
Oklahoma 1-2 Snuck by Pepperdine 4-3 in the opener on Friday before being totally dominated on Saturday, 0-10, and having a rally come up just a bit short on Sunday, 7-6.
Oklahoma State 0-3 The Cowboys were shutout twice over the weekend while being swept by Cal-Poly 6-0, 11-3, 6-0
Texas 2-1 Beat Duke twice on Saturday, 4-0 and 5-3, before falling to the Blue Devils 5-2 on Sunday. Freshman Brooks Marlow was named the Big XII Newcomer of the Week.
Texas A&M 3-0 Got a weekend sweep of Illinois Chicago by winning 10-0 and 9-2 on Saturday and then finishing it off with a 7-0 win on Sunday.
Texas Tech 3-1 Went 3-1 in their own Red Raider Classic by defeating Missouri State 4-1 on Friday, Tennessee Tech 9-5 on Saturday and then again 8-0 on Sunday before finally falling to Missouri State 4-2 in Sunday's final game.
