Kansas Scouting Report
Sandwiched in between Oklahoma's biggest rivalry game and biggest non-conference game of the season are the 1-5 Kansas Jayhawks. If there was ever a trap game, its this one! Kansas has been bad in just about every aspect of the game this season so there's a huge temptation there to look past them and on to the Irish coming to town the next week.
The Jayhawks are last in the Big 12 in scoring offense at 19 points per game. Led by quarterback Dayne Crist, they are ninth in the conference in passing yards per game at 198.3. They are middle of the pack (fifth) in the Big 12 in rushing with an average of 179.3 yards per contest.
Christ is completing just 49% of his passes for an average of 6.1 yards per completion. For the season, he has 1,088 passing yards and three touchdowns to seven interceptions. His leading receiver has been former quarterback Kale Pick who has hauled in 15 receptions for 248 yards. Running back James Sims is averaging 4.7 yards per carry and 114.7 rushing yards per game.
Defensively, the Jayhawks are seventh in the conference in points allowed. Kansas gives up an average of 28 points per game and opponents do most of their damage on the ground. The only team that gives up more than the Jayhawks 200.8 rushing yards per game is the Texas Longhorns. Kansas is one of three teams to have allowed twelve rushing touchdowns this season.Linebacker Ben Heeney and safety Bradley McDougald lead the Jayhawks in tackling with 50 total tackles each.
Ron Doherty is averaging 40.5 yards per punt and has pinned opponents inside their own twenty six times. He's also the place kicker where he's connected on just five of ten attempts. Tre' Parmalee is averaging 22.9 yards per kickoff return and Daymond Patterson 6.2 yards per punt return.
