Just last month, Oklahoma was finding out just how short handed they would be in 2012 in terms of experienced defensive ends. It is hard to replace talents like Frank Alexander and Ronnell Lewis but such is the nature of the beast. It is no secret that the Sooners have established a pipeline into California and have dipped back in going after Irvine defensive end target Kyle Kelley. The initial look we here at CCM took at this kid can be seen here. However there has been a new development.
Kelley had initially committed to the Arizona Wildcats early on in his recruitment process. But, his recruitment was opened back up after the dismissal of Mike Stoops. Now, the Stoops brothers have reunited in Norman and it is not uncommon to see a recruit switch their commitment to follow a specific coach whom they have established a relationship with. While this is not always the case, it does happen.
Kelley had home visits that were scheduled with Colorado as well as Oklahoma for the upcoming week. In the blink of an eye, all that has changed. Kelley has canceled both home visits from the pursuing schools and has said that he is 100% committed to Arizona.
Oklahoma is not in a position where they need to be desperate in going after defensive ends. There is no point where any Sooner fan would hope that the coaching staff becomes desperate for recruits at a certain position. With that said, each kid must make the decision that is best for himself or herself. If Arizona is the better fit, then best of luck Kyle!
