OU lands 2012 verbal commit #5

CB Devante Harris has just become the latest member of the OU class of 2012. And no, that's not his middle school picture.

The OU class of 2012 just gained its latest member in the form of Mesquite, TX corner back Devante Harris.  Harris was just visited by Coach Venables and his now future position coach Willie Martinez on Wednesday, receiving his official scholarship offer shortly after the coaches watched him work through a practice.  So obviously it didn't take him long to make up his mind, giving his non-binding verbal commitment just barely 24 hours later.

Harris isn't necessarily an 'unknown' recruit, but it does look like OU got in earlier than most and may have found a real gem.  Obviously only time will tell, but with the extremely limited number of spots in the 2012 class you can rest assured that if OU offers early the kid is a player.  Harris is 5'11" 160 pounds, so clearly adding some muscle will be the first goal.  However, he's a pure corner which is a big need in this upcoming class.  So clearly OU is targeting specific positions and being very selective with their offers, unlike some other Big 12-2 schools who are on the verge of offering The Waterboy (cough*A&M*cough).

Harris turned down offers from Kansas State, Mississippi State, SMU, Stanford, & Virginia to become the fifth member of the 2012 class for Oklahoma.

Welcome to Sooner Nation Devante!
