OU Spring Football - Update Tidbits

Just thought with the spring game coming up, it would be a good time to get caught up on some of the latest happenings with our Sooners football team.

Oubulletlogo_medium Coach Stoops has confirmed that WR Justin McCay suffered a sprained MCL, so he'll miss the spring game but wont' require surgery.  Very good news for the redshirt freshman as there is no reason he won't be ready for the season opener.

Oubulletlogo_medium Unfortunately, another injury for our Sooners at the WR spot, as Sheldon McClain has apparently suffered a broken collarbone.  Like McCay, he will also miss the spring game but as of now will not require surgery.

Oubulletlogo_medium Joe Powell had been rumored to be moving to the defensive side of the ball for awhile and now it appears the shift has finally happened.  Stoops confirmed today that they have moved Powell to corner back and in a short time there he has already impressed coaches with his play making ability.

Oubulletlogo_medium The spring game this Saturday could be a fairly boring one.  What I mean by that is OU could be incredibly limited at the WR spot.  We've covered two injuries and a position switch already, they you take into account that Broyles will not play, Stills is doubtful still dealing with a hamstring injury, Trey Franks and Dejuan Miller coming off injuries, it could be slim pickings in the Red/White game.

Oubulletlogo_medium Stoops was raving about LB Corey Nelson tonight after practice.

Corey Nelson lit it up in the scrimmage the other day, Stoops said. He broke the record for the way the we tally up points. He had three or four sacks, pressures, I don't know how many tackles. He had a huge day.  He looks like the best player out there on defense right now.  In fact, it's not even close.
