The Sooners opened Big 12 play Friday night against Texas A&M and they sent their ace to the mound and boy did he deliver! OU won the game 1-0 and snapped a three game losing streak, getting the better of A&M in an outstanding pitching duel between OU's Michael Rocha and the Aggies' John Stilson. Rocha barely missed his second complete game shutout going 8 2/3 innings, allowing only three hits, zero walks, and healthy 13 strikeouts. Closer Ryan Duke came in to get the final out after Rocha gave up a two out double. Garrett Buechele knocked in the only run of the game in the 7th inning on a single up the middle driving in Max White who had reached base on a two out walk.
This was a much needed win for the Sooners who were coming off a two game series against ASU where they looked almost out-classed. The Big 12 opener got OU off to the needed start with a win over A&M and back on the winning side of things.
The Sooners and Aggies will play the second of a three game series Saturday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park with first pitch at 2pm CT.
