Most OU fans are aware of the scholarship situation the Sooners are currently looking at and the fact that spots are very limited for this upcoming 2012 class.  So when an early offer goes out, you know Stoops and Co. think they've found a serious player.  Thus the verbal commitment today of Rockdale, TX athlete Daniel Brooks is a commit for Sooner fans desperate for anything football related to get excited about.

You can clearly see in the video the kid is a dynamic player with the ball in his hands, but don't be mislead by the fact that he plays primarily RB for Rockdale.  OU is recruiting him as a defensive back as they have already secured their RB for 2012 in Jenks star (and recently upped to #1 ranked OK 2012 prospect) Alex Ross.  Brooks is 5'10" 170 with the frame to easily add another 10-15 pounds of muscle.  Brooks may be a kid to keep an eye on with respect to his commitment.  He has made a lot of comments about keeping things open and really wanting to hear from some of the TX schools, so for now it might be best to put this one in pencil.  I know none of us want another Brandon Carter situation, so while OU has been clear about wanting him on defense we know from experience not to discount someone coming in late and tempting a kid with the option of an offensive spot.

An interesting side note is Brooks' fellow teammate, LB Derek David, is one of the Sooners top targets so hopefully David will be intrigued by the prospect of possibly playing with his good friend in the future.
