OU Football - CB Jamell Fleming not currently enrolled at OU

OU's star CB, Jamell Fleming, is not currently enrolled at OU and will not participate in spring practice.

UPDATE: Murdock has learned that this is strictly an academic issue, plain and simple.  The university would not allow Fleming to enroll, so he'll have to do some major hoop jumping if he wants to try and extend his college career. Again, incredibly disappointing that it has come to this point.

Shocking news out of Norman today as Coach Stoops has announced that star OU CB Jamell Fleming is not currently enrolled at OU and will not participate in spring practice.  Stoops only details in the announcement were that it is related to personal matters and that was pretty much the extent of it.  It is not known, or at least not announced, whether or not Fleming will return.  However according to Carey Murdock of SoonerScoop.com, this could be more of a permanent situation and a major blow to the OU defense.

Check out more info from Murdock after the jump.

According to Murdock, this is a situation where Fleming just decided he didn't want to come back to OU and would rather pursue an NFL career.  Apparently this was a situation where he did not enroll for the spring semester and OU was trying to convince him to change his mind and just wasn't successful in doing so.  No clue as to why he didn't just declare at the end of last year though???

Fleming has had grade issues in the past so it could be as simple as a kid who just doesn't want to put in the effort on the academic side.  Very odd situation in that he could have legitimately been one of the top 2012 CB prospects with a repeat of his 2010 season. Regardless, it's a major blow to the 2011 OU defense.  Sure they have a capable replacement in Aaron Colvin, but Fleming could have been paired with Demontre Hurst to form one of if not the best CB duos in the country.  Very, very disappointing.
