Sooner Baseball Wins Season Opener 7-1

Senior pitcher Michael Rocha pitched seven complete innings allowing just one hit and striking out seven while facing 22 batters. It was the type of performance that coaches and fans were hoping for from the guy who'll be one of the aces of the 2011 pitching staff. Perhaps equally impressive was Oklahoma's offense which produced 7 runs off 9 hits against a preseason All American.

Garrett Buechele got the scoring off William and Mary pitcher Matt Davenport started in the first inning when his single to left field scored Max White. In the second inning Eric Ross knocked in Drew Harrison and then scored himself on an error to build a 3-0 OU lead. Then in the third Buechele hit his first homerun of the season to push the lead to 4-0.

OU was scoreless in the 4th but struck for two runs in the 5th and another in the 6th to get their seven runs. Tyler Ogle and Cameron Seitzer both scored on errors in the fifth and then Ricky Eisenburg scored on a Max White sacrifice in the sixth.

William and Mary's lone score came in the top of the 9th when freshman pitcher Cayle Shambaugh gave up a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Sooners play the second and third of their games of their four game set tomorrow. First pitch is at Noon.
