Lon Kruger On Replacing Calvin Newell's Points, Scoring In The Paint And Tournament Resume

In preparation for a Wednesday radio interview for a station out of Fayetteville, Arkansas on Sooner basketball I asked Coach Kruger to share his thoughts on a few areas I thought I might be asked about. The absence of Calvin Newell, Oklahoma's bigs being able to score inside and outside and a possible first notch on building a tournament resume were among the things I asked and Coach Kruger was happy to oblige with his answers.

CCM: Does Cam Clark need to continue to score like he did against Sacramento State (18 points) to make up for the absence of Calvin Newell or is that too much pressure on one player and the team needs to absorb Newell's points?

CK: Nice to see Cam becoming a more consistent producer. When you lose a guy, all have to do more. Need Cam to stay aggressive and attack the rim.

CCM: Andrew Fitzgerald and Romero Osby are making baskets both in the paint as well as outside the paint. How much of that is design and how much of it just happens to be circumstance with the ball?

CK: Drew and Ro can both score facing as well in the low post. We encourage both to aggressively look to score. Both will keep making progress.

CCM: How important is the Arkansas game on Saturday towards building a tournament resume?

CK: We have great respect for Mike Anderson and the Arkansas program. The winner of our game will proceed with a little more confidence in approaching the next game. Not so concerned about tourney resume as we are with getting better each day.
