With the news last night of WR Derrick Woods' commitment, the Sooners are dipping back into the state of California with four star defensive end Kyle Kelley (Woodbridge H.S.). Kelley has confirmed to multiple recruiting services that he will make one of his five official visits to Norman next weekend (I believe this is the OU football banquet weekend, which is always a recruiting draw, and the same weekend DGB is supposed to be in town).
Kelley is currently a verbal commit to Arizona, but opened back up his recruitment after Mike Stoops dismissal. Kelley isn't a pure speed rusher, but has a good up field burst. He's 6'3" 215 pounds, so he will certainly need to add some bulk to hold up at DE. However if OU is transitioning to more of a 3-4 scheme as they appeared to do this year (despite having virtually not of the pieces to do so), he could make an ideal stand-up OLB.
Kelley currently holds offers from Arizona (verbal commit), Arizona State, Florida, and UCLA among others.
Somewhat related, the Sooners were also recruiting JUCO DE Austin Flynn but recently found out a math class he took would not transfer to OU. So they were forced to withdraw from his recruitment as he would have failed to qualify academically. Clearly OU is making a push for DEs as a part to close out this class, but the one name we're not hearing is that of Mario Edwards Jr. If you chose to read into such things, you might assume the pursuit of Flynn and Kelley among others, that the coaches aren't high on their chances with Edwards. At this point I could necessarily tell you that you're wrong, but Edwards is still looking even after reaffirming to FSU and he was high on OU. So I wouldn't totally write him off just yet.
