Coach Kruger announced Wednesday night after practice that guard Calvin Newell has been suffering from concussion like symptoms after taking a hard hit on a screen in last week's 76 Classic Tournament. You may remember the blow, he was defending his man as he brought the ball up court and was blind sided by a pick. While he stayed in the game, the after effects are apparently still giving him some issues.
Kruger said they may hold him out Friday night against Sacramento State for precautionary measures just to be safe and give him a little more time to recover. Kruger said that it will be a game time decision.
Given how well he's been playing this season, it would obviously be a considerable loss. With head injuries though it's always better to be safe so I'm confident Coach Kruger will do what is best.
