Texas Tech @ Oklahoma: Notable Stats

Has Seth Doege elevated himself to iconic status in the minds and hearts of Texas Tech Red Raider fans with an upset over the highly touted Sooners?

First off, I know I am a bit late on throwing these out there. This is normally a Monday work for me so forgive me.

While this is a game I want to put behind and move on from, there are several stats that could be looked at as to why Oklahoma struggled to move the ball consistently. This eventually played into the defense as football is a team sport and one side of the ball depends on the other side. While the offense when 3-and-out the defense was not able to get a break on the sideline, leading to a very apparent fatigued defense. Anyway, here are some stats:

  • The Game started with an hour and a half of rain delay
  • 7+ dropped passes from the Oklahoma Receivers
  • Landry Jones completed a mere 54.5% of his pass attempts
  • The Oklahoma Defense gave up 572 total yards of offense
  • The Oklahoma Offense took only 33 snaps in the first half
  • Seth Doege torched the Sharks for 452 yards and 4 touchdowns
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders time of possession was 9:58 more than the Oklahoma Sooners
  • Rushing - TTU had 120 yards on 43 carries while OU had 124 yards on 25 attempts against one of the worst rushing defenses
  • Roy Finch only carried the ball 13 times while averaging 7.2 ypc (Dominique Whaley was sick)
  • Oklahoma stopped a fake punt on 4th down giving Sooner fans hope
  • Texas Tech was stuffed on a 4th and goal attempt instead of choosing to extend their lead with a FG
  • Michael Hunnicutt missed two field goals (these would not have won the game as we say they would have because of the stat above and I think Tuberville handles it differently had Hunnicutt made one)
  • Only three Oklahoma WR's were involved in the offense
  • Ryan Broyles has 2 fumbles in 2 games (another new pair of gloves?)
  • TE play, stretch plays, Play action, and the Diamond were all nonexistent on Saturday
  • The loss marks the end of the 39-game home win streak in Norman
