Sooner Basketball Report: Brace Yourself - Big 12 Basketball Conference Play Starts Today

New, 4 comments

The Oklahoma men's basketball team will start conference play this afternoon when they host #16 Texas A&M. The bad news for the Sooners is that they've been outmatched quite often this season against upper tier competition but the good news is that OU is undefeated at home.

The story for Oklahoma so far this season has been the rise of freshman Cameron Clark. He has scored double figures in four of OU's last six games. After starting the season by averaging just 5.5 points per game through the first eight games he's averaged 13.7 points per game over the last six and has shown the athletic ability to jump out of the building on a few of his slams.

The Sooners are fifth in the Big 12 in field goal percentage at 47% and are fourth in made three-point shots with an average of 7.2 makes per game. One of the key problems for Oklahoma has been turnovers. Opponents are scoring an average of 17.4 points per game off 14.5 Sooner turnovers. Here are a few individual player notes heading into conference play.

- Forward Andrew Fitzgerald leads the team with 13.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

- Guard Cade Davis is shooting 40% from three-point range.

- Point guard Carl Blair has dished out 49 assists this season and is shooting 53% from the floor.
