Oklahoma football picked up its ninth verbal commitment Wednesday night from TX DE Cooper Washington.

"I called coach (Bobby Jack) Wright and the first time I called he was in a meeting. So my dad called him (and he recognized his number) and told him that I was thinking about giving a verbal," explained Washington. "Then I got a hold of coach Wright and he said he jumped out of his chair in excitement when I told him I wanted to commit."

"After I got done talking to coach Wright he gave me coach Stoops number," said Washington. "So then I called coach Stoops and told him I was committing and that I wanted to be a Sooner. He told me he was really excited to have me. And that he couldn't start working with me in the upcoming year."

"I was there on Friday and we got a tour by coach Wright showing us the weight room, practice field, coach Stoops office and stuff like that," said Washington. "I also got to meet some of the players and they were all good-hearted, good character guys and they all seem to graduate on time as well which is a really important thing. It really made me feel like Oklahoma was home and it was somewhere I wanted to be."

As for where the Sooner coaching staff sees him fitting into the program?

"They want me to play defensive end," said Washington. "I have noticed year after year their defense is always swarming around the ball and that's the way I want to play. I've always wanted to be a Sooner."

Washington isn't going to show up on any five star recruiting lists, but don't let that fool you into thinking this isn't a solid commitment for our Sooners.  As you'll see on his film below, the kid looks to be a clone of a Dan Cody/Auston English type.  Non stop motor who will fight to get to the QB until the absolute second the zebras blow the whistle.  OU has made a name for itself in reaching down into Texas and plucking out some unheralded kids and turning them into very solid contributors.  I see no reason to think they haven't done just that by securing the verbal commitment of Cooper Washington.  Welcome to Sooner Nation Cooper!
