Sooners Rally To Beat USF 5-4

New, 4 comments

Our favorite OU baseball name came through with a clutch hit in a clutch situation and Oklahoma escaped the first game of the Sooner Classic with a 5-4 win over South Florida.Trailing 4-2 going into the bottom of the 8th, OU was able to plate one run to draw within striking distance. Then, after tying the game at 4 in the bottom of the 9th, Caleb Bushyhead came up to bat with two outs and the bases loaded. He singled, driving in Garrett Buechele and completing the Sooner rally.

"I thought it was big," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway on the rally. "Everybody off the bench was big. We were going to have to use everybody again and we might have used everyone. It might not be the last time if they all keep coming through."

Oklahoma's Jeremy Erben picked up his third win of the season, improving his record to 3-0, after pitching the final two innings. He struck out three and didn't allow any runs. Bushyhead, Buechele and Cameron Seitzer had two hits each and were the only Sooners with multiple hits.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning the Sooners were outscored by the Bulls 4-0 over the next four innings, setting up the stage for Oklahoma's rally. Oklahoma is now 8-1 on the season and will play Western Illinois Friday afternoon at 3:00 in the second day of the Sooner Classic.
